"Aladdin and the Magic Lamp" Part 2
The old man was actually an evil wizard.
Aladdin: "Oh no, what should I do..."
Unable to leave the cave, Aladdin sat down on the ground and thought.
Then I noticed something sparkling.
Upon closer inspection, they noticed that the lamp that Aladdin had given to the old man had fallen to the ground.
Aladdin: "What? This lamp..."
When the grandfather closed the cave entrance, the ground started shaking and the lamp fell into the cave.
Aladdin: "No, the lamp is of no use..."
Aladdin found an old lamp.
Aladdin: "But why did the old man want such a dirty lamp?"
Then I scrubbed the dirty parts of the lamp with my clothes.
And then... smoke, smoke, smoke...
White smoke comes out of the lamp...
Genie of the Lamp: "Nice to meet you, master! What can I do for you?"
A big lamp fairy appeared.
Aladdin: "Whoaaaaah! What is this?"
Genie: "I'm the genie of the lamp. I've been trapped in this lamp for a long time."
Aladdin: "There really are such fairies!"
Genie of the Lamp: "Yes, there is! As thanks for letting me out of the lamp, I will grant you three wishes! Just tell me what you want, what you want to do, anything you like."
Aladdin: "Can anything really come true?"
Aladdin couldn't believe what the genie was telling him.
Genie: "Of course!"
The genie is full of confidence.
Aladdin: "So, my first wish is to let me out of this cave!"
Genie: "I understand, master."
Immediately, sparkling smoke came out of the genie's fingers, and Aladdin suddenly found himself back home.
Aladdin: "Wow, your powers are real! This is amazing!"
Genie: "Haha! Yes! My powers are real! Now, what's your next wish?"
Aladdin: "That's right... Then I want to meet the princess of this country, so please make me a prince!"
Genie of the Lamp: "Understood!"
When sparkling smoke comes out of the genie's fingers...
Aladdin instantly transformed into a prince.
Aladdin took all the jewels and went to the princess' castle.
Aladdin: "I am the prince of a neighboring country. I have come to see your princess."
Princess: "Oh, how handsome!"
Aladdin showed the king and princess many jewels.
King: "Oh, this is a real prince. Few people have so many jewels."
So Aladdin and the princess got married.

Aladdin was able to marry the princess without any problems.
But the story doesn't end there!
Can this really end with a happy ending?

Now, let's learn some of the grammar that appears in the text!
Aladdin is unable to leave the cave and finds something shiny.
"When I looked closely, I saw that the lamp that Aladdin had given to his grandfather had fallen."
What does this "should" mean?
Today, let's learn the grammar "~hazu"!
"~hazu" is used to mean "I absolutely think that's the case" or "I'm almost 100% confident."
Sample1 Tanaka-san, you've been here before, so you should be able to find your way.
Sample2 The manager said that he used to work in America, so he must be good at English.
Sample 3 Suzuki-san, you were supposed to call me when you got to the station, but I haven't heard from you yet. I wonder what's going on...
Sample 4 What? The door is open even though I thought I locked it.
"~hazu" is often used when you have a strong belief for a reason, as in Sample 1 and Sample 2, or when you have absolute confidence but something different happens, as in Sample 3 and Sample 4, or when an unexpected happening occurs.
For things in the past, use "should have been".
"Should have been" can be used to express that you had originally planned to do something, but ended up not doing it.
Sample1 I was supposed to go abroad to study, but I was invited by a company I know to take a job there.
Sample2 I was supposed to see a musical yesterday, but I caught a cold and couldn't go...
Sample3 I was supposed to buy a new smartphone, but the cost of repairing my car was higher than I expected, so I gave up.
You can use this phrase when talking about something that was different from what was planned!
