Read the story The Happy Prince.

In my last blog I introduced part 1 of this story.

This time, let's read part 2.

Summary of Part 1 ↓

In a certain country, there was a beautiful statue made of rubies, sapphires, and gold leaf called the Happy Prince.

One day, the prince's statue asked a swallow to fly over and deliver his ruby and sapphire to people who had no money or were in need.

However, the sapphires were the prince's eyes, and he became blind.

So, what will happen to the prince and the swallow now?

Let's read more.

"The Happy Prince" Part 2

The swallow took the sapphire and brought it to the girl.

Girl: "Now I can buy new clothes and my mommy and daddy won't bully me anymore!"

The girl was happy.

However, the prince lost both his eyes and could no longer see.

In the autumn the prince said to the swallow:

Prince Statue: "Thank you, Mr. Swallow. I think it's time for you to go to Egypt."

Swallow: "No, I will always be with you, my prince. You have lost your eyes, so I will be your eyes."

Prince Statue: "Thank you. Then, could you please go and see if there are any people in need in this country?"

The Swallow flew all over the country looking for anyone who was sick or in need.

When the swallow returned, he told the prince about the state of the people in the country.

Prince Statue: "I see. Then I want you to give the gold leaf from my body, piece by piece, to those in need."

The swallow did as the prince said, took the gold leaf and distributed it to the poor.

In the process, the prince's statue turned into a dirty grey statue.

Then winter came and the Swallow knew that he did not have much time left to live.

But the Swallow continued to give out the Prince's gold leaf to everyone.

Finally, the Swallow collapsed under the statue of the Prince.

The prince's heart was broken in half by the loss of the swallow.

After a while, the people of the country completely forgot about the Happy Prince.

Country people: "What the hell is this filthy statue? We're going to build a new park here, so please leave this filthy statue behind."

Thus, the statue of the prince and the swallow were abandoned.

However, God saw what was happening and sent an angel to help.

God: "Bring me the two best things in this country."

The angels took the prince's heart and the dead swallow back to heaven.

God: "These two are amazing because they continued to give to others until the very end."

So God granted them both eternal life, and the prince and the swallow lived happily ever after in heaven.

How was it.

It was a touching story about a statue of a prince who gives things for people and a swallow.

In the story, it is said that the prince lost his sight, so today I would like to introduce some Japanese proverbs related to "eyes."

Please read it and try using Japanese proverbs!

…To love one's children, grandchildren, etc. very much. That feeling.

Sample 1 Children are so adorable that they hurt your eyes.

…Even if you don’t say anything, just by looking into your eyes you can understand what you want to say. Your true feelings are revealed in your eyes.

Sample1 You must have something to complain about. I can tell because the eyes say as much as the mouth.

Sample2 Do you know that the eyes speak as loud as the mouth? Don't lie, be honest.

Sample3 That person's eyes are always scary. He speaks kindly, but the eyes say as much as the mouth. I think it's better not to make him angry.
