Let's talk using "notice", "pay attention", and "mind"/Japanese Learning Support LLC
Let's talk using the word "ki".
Feelings and consciousness are inseparable from the emotional movements and decisions we make in our lives, which is why a variety of words have been created.
For example, the title words ``aware'' and ``be careful'' look very similar, but when should they be used?
Please pay attention to the verbs attached to ``ki'' and think about how your feelings and consciousness move.
In the second half, we will introduce various words that will make you aware, focusing on words that are often used in everyday life, so please read while imagining the situation.
① “I notice”
→Represents the state of coming up with something or having an idea pop into your head. It is also sometimes used to mean paying close attention to details.
example)
・Tanaka: “Are you working overtime today?”
Yamada: “Yeah. I noticed a mistake when I was reviewing the materials earlier, so I’m quickly correcting it.”
・Yamada: “My printer is about to run out of ink, so I’m going to order some.”
Boss: “Thank you. Yamada-kun is a really attentive person.”
→This is an example of how it is used in the sense of "attention to detail" mentioned above.
・The next thing I knew , I was lying in a hospital bed, with my family and friends looking at me worriedly.
→Although it is a slightly special situation, it is sometimes used in situations where "consciousness returns". It's better not to use it, but it's a common situation in novels and dramas.
② “Be careful”
→Be careful not to make mistakes or have bad things happen. I guess it's best to think of it as always having something in mind and being conscious of it, or keeping one's antenna up.
example)
・Yamada: “Mr. Kawamoto, the date of the data in the document was wrong.”
Kawamoto: “I’m sorry. I’ll be more careful in the future.”
・Yamada: “Next time, I’m going for a drive to a place called Amagi in Izu.”
Tanaka: “Animals often jump out there, so be careful .”
③ “I care”
→Represents a state of being worried about something or keeping in mind the situation of oneself or other people/things.
example)
・Rin: “Suzuki-san is fashionable, isn’t she?”
Kawamoto: ``Yes, but I get in trouble because I keep worrying about my hairstyle while I'm working and my work doesn't progress.''
・Yamada: “I failed the qualification exam the other day. I tried really hard.”
Tanaka: " Don't worry about it . I'll definitely pass next time."
・Tanaka: “I was invited to a drinking party the day before yesterday, but I’m sorry I couldn’t go.”
Senpai: “No, don’t worry about it . Besides, are you okay with a cold?”
→When someone apologizes to you or is worried about you, try saying something like this.
④ “I’m curious.”
→It refers to a state where you feel anxious because something is stuck in your mind, or when you remember it even if you try not to think about it. Let's compare it with "I care" from earlier.
“Do” something that you care about…something that you take the initiative to do with the intention of doing so.
“Become” anxious… a state where you can’t control it by your will and it happens unconsciously
There is a difference like this. While "worrying" means something you are doing of your own volition (regardless of whether you want to do it or not), "worrying" means that anxiety or other thoughts come to mind regardless of your will. .
example)
・Wife: “What happened?”
Yamada: “I can’t sleep because I ’m worried about tomorrow’s presentation.”
→You can use the word ``worried'' in the same way, with the image of ``being stuck in your heart.''
・Yamada: "Yamamoto-san, you've been taking a lot of days off lately. I hope you're okay..."
Tanaka: "Yeah, I'm also concerned about how many mistakes I make at work. Maybe I should talk to you more slowly next time."
・Friend: “Lately, I’ve been curious about the girl sitting across from me. Even though we haven’t talked much…”
Takahashi: “That’s love, love! I’ll support you.”
→In addition to negative things, there are also wonderful ways to use it. I guess it's like unconsciously thinking about that person or following that person with your eyes. In addition, when I say, `` I've been interested in a bag from that store lately,'' I often think of that bag, even though I don't know whether I'll buy it or not, and I always unconsciously check the information. It is a state. I'm sure many of you have this in mind.
☆There are many other ways to use ``ki''. Although this is just a small part, I would like to introduce some of the things that I often hear in my daily life.
■ ``It's all in my head'' : It's a state of thinking that something is true when it actually isn't. It means that you feel that way because of your feelings.
Example) Yamada: "Um, someone came? Maybe it's a customer."
Wife: “No, there’s no one there. Isn’t it just my imagination?”
■ ``I feel like it'' : As the name suggests, I feel like I want to try something.
Example: I don't usually do it much because it makes me tired, but I sometimes go jogging when I feel like it.
■ ``Consideration'' : To be considerate and to treat other people and things with care so as not to cause trouble.
Example: That senpai isn't a bad person, but he doesn't always smile that much, so I get worried when I'm with him.
■ ``Kinjonainai'' : It means that there is no need to be reserved or careful about each other.
Example: He has been my childhood friend since elementary school, and he is one of the few friends I have with me.
Well, this time I have introduced many words that use the ``ki'' of feelings. Can you imagine how each word moves your feelings? As I mentioned at the beginning, our consciousness and feelings are constantly changing in our daily lives, and there are still many words to express these changes and conditions. Please take a moment to think about how you are feeling at any given time.
