There are two stories, questions, and conversation practice.

① "Omusubi Kororin"

A long time ago, an old man was eating rice balls in the mountains.

Grandpa: "No, the rice balls that grandma made are the most delicious!"

However,

Grandpa: "Oops..."

One rice ball fell to the ground.

The rice ball just rolled over and fell into a nearby hole.

Grandpa: "Oh, what should I do...the rice ball I was looking forward to..."

When the old man put his face close to the hole in the ground, he heard happy music coming from inside.

Omusubi Kororin, Suttonton♪

The old man was also happy and danced.

Then his foot slipped and the old man also fell into the hole.

Omusubi Kororin, Suttonton♪

The voice of the song got closer and closer, and the old man finally stopped.

Grandpa: "Where is this place?"

Mouse: "Welcome, welcome! Grandpa! This is the land of mice!"

In the land of mice, many mice lived happily.

Mouse : "Today, let's have a welcome party for Grandpa! Please enjoy yourself!"

Grandpa: "Yes! Are you sure? Thank you!"

Mouse : "First, we will show you our song and dance. Please take your time."

Chan chaka, chan chaka...♪

This is the land of mice~♪ It's a fun land~♪ Cats are scary, don't come out♪

Grandpa: "Oh, this is beautiful music."

Mouse: "We have a lot of delicious food, so please try it!"

Grandpa: "I'm sorry."

Mouse : "Would you like some sake together?"

Grandfather: "Okay, I'll have it."

The old man ate delicious food while watching the mice sing and dance.

Grandfather: "No, it's already night. It's time to excuse myself."

Mouse : "Are you going home already?"

Grandpa : "At home, Grandma might be worried."

Mouse : "Then, please take this souvenir. Please be careful on your way home."

Grandpa: "Thank you so much for today! See you soon!"

Mouse : "Yes, I'll be waiting for you anytime."

Grandfather went home with souvenirs.

Granny: "Well, what's wrong with that bag?"

Grandfather: "Actually, I went to Mouse Country today and had a party."

Grandmother: "Hey! That's good. Is that package a souvenir from the mouse?"

Grandpa: "Oh yeah, they were really kind mice and the party was a lot of fun."

The old man next door was watching the place where the old man and the old woman were talking happily.

The old man next door: "What!? I ate delicious food in the country of mice and even got a souvenir! Let's go too."

The next day, the old man next door also went to the mountains.

Then, when he found the mouse hole, he put the rice ball into the hole.

Omusubi Kororin, Suttonton♪

After all, I hear good music.

The old man next door went into the hole by himself.

Mouse: "Welcome, welcome! This is the land of mice!"

The old man next door: "Come on, come on, show me the song and dance."

Mouse : "Yes. Please wait a moment."

The old man next door: "Do you have delicious food and alcohol yet?"

Mouse : "Yes, please. Please enjoy your meal."

Chan chaka, chan chaka...♪

This is the land of mice~♪ It's a fun land~♪ Cats are scary, don't come out♪

When the mouse sang,

The old man next door: "Meow, meow!"

I made a cat voice.

I thought I would surprise the mouse and take all the rice and souvenirs.

Mouse : "Eeeeeee! Cat! Run away!"

In a blink of an eye, the mice fled and the electricity in the mouse country went out.

The old man next door was left alone in a dark hole.

② "Naisho no mizuame"

Once upon a time there lived a smart boy named Ikkyu-san.

One night, Ikkyu went out into the hallway to go to the bathroom.

Then, the light in the priest's room was still on.

Ikkyu: "Huh? Is Osho still awake?"

Ikkyu opened the door of Osho's room.

Then the monk was licking something in the box with great interest.

Ikkyu: "(Ah! That must be delicious starch syrup!)"

Osho-san was surprised to see Ikkyu-san.

Osho: "Oh, Ikkyu. What's wrong?"

Ikkyu: "Osho-san, you're still awake. I was thinking of going to the bathroom..."

Osho: "Yes. Go to bed early."

Ikkyu: "By the way, what's in the box?"

Osho: "Ah... this is the... medicine."

Ikkyu: "Medicine...is it? May I try it too?"

Osho: "No, it's dangerous if a child licks it, so you can't."

Ikkyu: "I see. I understand. Good night."

Ikkyu went back to his futon, but he couldn't sleep thinking about that delicious starch syrup.

The next day, the priest was preparing to leave.

Ikkyu: "Osho-san, are you going out somewhere?"

Priest: "Yeah, I have something to do. Ikkyu, clean the temple with the other boys."

Ikkyu: "Yes, I understand."

Osho: "Also, don't lick that medicine. It's dangerous."

Ikkyu: "Of course, I understand. Then come on."

Then the monk left.

Ikkyu called the other boys together.

Ikkyu: "Everyone, there's something nice in Osho-san's room."

Kid: "Yes, what is good?"

Ikkyu and the other boys went to the priest's room and licked the syrup in the box.

How delicious!

Ikkyu: "As expected, it's starch syrup! You lied about it being medicine."

We all licked it, and finally all the starch syrup was gone.

Kid: "Hey, Ikkyu. What should I do... The priest will scold me."

Ikkyu: "Okay."

Then, when Ikkyu went to the kitchen, he broke a plate that was treasured by the priest.

Kid: "What are you doing? If you do that, you'll get scolded even more!"

Just then, the priest returned.

Ikkyu: "Listen, everyone. Pretend to be crying."

Osho-san was surprised to see everyone.

Osho: “Hey, Ikkyu.

Ikkyu: I'm sorry.

Osho could no longer scold Ikkyu and the others.
