Let's read rakugo.

There may be an image that Japanese rakugo is difficult, but it is actually a picture book, and Japanese children are exposed to rakugo from an early age.

I would like everyone to relax and enjoy rakugo, so today I would like to introduce a story called "Jugemu".

"Kugemu"

A baby was born to a couple.

"Have you decided on your baby's name yet?"

"No, not yet. Well, what name should I give him? I'm Hachigoro, so how about Kurokuro?"

"Give me such a sloppy name. First of all, isn't Kuroro a name that seems to bring misfortune?

"Then, let's have the priest of the temple put it on."

So, the next morning, my husband went to see the priest of the village temple.

"I'm sorry. Osho-san! Are you there?"

"Oh my God, what can I do for you so early?"

"Actually, I asked you to name the child."

"Hmm, so what name would you like?"

“My wife said that I would like a name that would help me live a long life, that would be auspicious, and that I wouldn’t be overwhelmed…Is there such a name?”

"Oh yeah, how about something like this? It's said that cranes live for a thousand years, so how about Tsurunosuke or Tsurutaro?"

"I feel sorry for him if he only lives a thousand years. Do you have a name that can live longer?"

"If 1000 years isn't enough, how about names like Kamenosuke or Kametaro?"

"Will you die in 10,000 years? Uuuuu... Then I feel sorry for the child. Osho-san, such a limited name is bad luck. Isn't there a name that doesn't expire?"

"Hmm. Oh, yes. There is Jugemu."

"Jugemu? Is it a caterpillar?"

"No. Jugemumu means life indefinitely."

"Well, thank you very much. Do you have anything else?"

"There's also the fraying of five kalpas."

"If it wears out, I feel kind of sorry..."

"Five kale frayed means endless."

"As expected of a priest, you know a lot. Do you have anything else?"

"There are sea gravel and water fish."

"Kaijari? What the hell is that?"

"Gravel in the sea, the number of fish is unlimited."

"It certainly is."

"How about the end of the water line, the end of the clouds, and the end of the wind? The end of the water, the end of the clouds and the wind are all endless."

"Hey! One more time!"

“Hmm.

"Kami said something like that too..."

"There is also a plant called Yabukoji. It has been used as a symbol of 100 ryo gold since long ago. There was once a country called Paipo. There was a king named Shuringan and a king named Gurindai. I heard that there was a princess, and that two princesses, Pompocopi and Pompoconer, who were born during that time, lived a very long life.”

"Ponpoko looks like something fun. Do you have anything else?"

“To put it plainly, long life is written as Chokyumei. This is pretty good.”

"It's finally starting to sound like a name."

"Chosuke is also good."

"Hello. Well, thank you for thinking so much. Now write them all down on a piece of paper. I'll take it home and show it to my wife."

Then, I showed my wife all the names that Osho had come up with and consulted with her.

"Hey, look! You've given me so much to think about."

"Well, it's been a long time."

"But it's impossible for me to choose just one name out of all the names I'm grateful for. I'd rather name them all."

"Yeah, isn't that a little too long?"

"It would be a waste to throw away a good name after a little longer."

We finally decided on a name for our baby.

But well, it seems that the length of the name is moderate after all, and the children of this house have a hard time calling their names and relaxing them. Since it's so long, I feel like I could shorten it and call it Jugenmu-chan, but since it's a child's name, I have to say it to the end.

A relative's uncle and aunt

"Hey Taro. Peek-a-boo."

Taro-chan would laugh at me if I comforted him, but my child doesn't do that.

"Hey, Jugemu, Jugemu, five kara wears, sea gravel water fish, the end of the water line, the end of the clouds, the end of the wind, the place where you live where you eat and sleep, the bushy citrus, the paipopaipo, the piepo. 's Shulingan, Shulingan's Gurindai, Greendai's Pompocopi's Pompocona's Long-life Chosuke-chan, peek-a-boo!"

"Huh? Are you sleeping already...?"

How was it.

We introduced a rakugo story called "Jugemu" that makes you laugh.

I would be happy if everyone could take this opportunity to become interested in Japanese and rakugo. If you would like to read more rakugo, I have introduced some on my other blog, so please take a look at that as well.
