It's been raining this week and the temperature has dropped. Until recently, short sleeves were fine, but today I took out a sweater from my closet and put it on. I saw it on the news, but it seems to be the first time in 88 years that the temperature is as good as today's at this time of year! Surprise, isn't it? From tomorrow, the temperature difference will become more intense, so please be careful not to catch a cold.
Today, I would like to introduce you to Aesop's Fable "The Dog and the Cockerel". By all means, please read it while cheering up.
Think before you read.
The story includes a dog, a rooster, and a fox. What kind of image do you have of these animals? Please read while paying attention to the personality of the character.
"Dog and Cockerel"
A house had a dog and a cock.
On a very fine day, everyone in the house went out into town.
Then said the dog.
"Oh, I don't want to be kept in someone's house all the time. I want to go on a trip and be free."
Hearing this, the cockerel also said:
"That's right. I don't want to spend the rest of my life in a cage like this. Hey, let's go on a journey together."
So the dog opened the aviary and let the rooster out.
The rooster used his beak to remove the dog's collar.
The dog and the cockerel were happy and set off on their journey.
"Oh, how fun it is without a collar! I feel like my body is so light that I can fly anywhere like a balloon."
When the dog said so, the rooster also answered.
"I didn't know the world was so big and free. The aviary I lived in was really small."
The dog and the cockerel went into the forest.
The forest was cool and very comfortable.
While looking for food and playing, night fell.
So the rooster climbed up the tree and the dog decided to sleep in the hole at the base of the tree.
It's dawn. Rooster, as usual
"Cock-a-doodle, cock-a-doodle"
cried.
Then a fox that happened to be sleeping nearby woke up.
"Hey, there's a chicken nearby. Would you like to have some for breakfast? Hehehehe."
The fox sniffed and walked until he reached the bottom of the tree where the rooster was climbing.
"Hello, Mr. Cockerel. Nice to meet you in my forest. You are welcome."
When the fox said so, the rooster also greeted him.
"Hi, Mr. Fox. Good morning."
"No~, but you have a really nice voice. I really want to be your friend. Come down here."
"Of course, I'd like to be friends with you, too. But first, could you talk to the gatekeeper who's sleeping in the hole in the tree? If the gatekeeper says yes, I'll come down from the tree. ”
"Hey, is there a gatekeeper? Of course, I'll call out to you."
The fox grinned inwardly.
"Hihihihi. Then, let's eat from the gatekeeper's chicken."
When the fox found the hole, it suddenly thrust its face into it.
At that moment,
"Wow, wow!"
The dog barked and bit the fox's nose.
"Gyaaaa!"
The fox screamed in pain and ran away into the forest.
Then the dog and the cockerel continued their journey on good terms.
How was it?
Foxes often appear in stories as cunning animals, but in this story the cunning fox was chased away by a more intelligent rooster.
A smart person successfully persuades an opponent he thinks he can't compete with and sends him to a stronger person. After all, strength alone cannot compete with words and wisdom.
Do you have any incidents that you were able to overcome because of your wisdom? If so, please let me know.
Also, my grandmother used to jokingly say that the older I get, the more cunning I get.Is this true? I'm looking forward to what kind of wisdom I'll have in 50 years, and I'm grinning like a fox.
Today, I introduced the story "Dog and Cockerel".
