This time we will introduce the story "Shepherd boy". This is also a very famous story, and I'm sure some of you have heard of it. Read stories and enjoy learning Japanese.
"Shepherd Boy"
Once upon a mountain there lived a shepherd boy.
A boy must watch the sheep every day.
"Oh, I'm bored every day. I wonder if there's anything interesting... Yes!!"
The boy had an idea. and went down to the village,
"It's the wolf! The wolf is out! The sheep are being eaten!"
cried out loud.
"I'm going to help you now!"
The villagers who were working in the fields rushed over.
"Where are you? Where are the wolves?"
But the wolf is nowhere to be seen.
In pastures, sheep were leisurely eating grass.
"Hey, you tricked me~"
The boy stuck out his tongue and made fun of everyone.
"What? Are you lying?"
“You came all the way here!”
The villagers went home in anger.
Well, next day.
“Yesterday was fun.
The boy cried out again.
"Damn! The wolf is here!"
The villagers rushed again in a panic.
But this time there was no wolf.
"I was deceived again! You liar!"
The people of the village got angry and went home.
"Because herding sheep is boring."
The boy stuck out his tongue again.
And the next day, when the boy was dozing off for a nap,
"Hey~~~!"
Suddenly the sheep started making noise.
When I looked, the real wolf was running towards me.
"Wow, it's a wolf!!"
Hearing the boy's cries, the villagers laughed and said,
"The liar is making noise again."
"We're not stupid either. We won't be deceived anymore."
"I'm not lying. This time the wolf really came!"
The boy cried out, but no one came to his aid, and all the sheep were eaten.
How was it?
Did you know this story? It was a story about a boy who lied so many times that no one believed him.
In Japan, adults teach children that a liar is the beginning of a thief. It means that a liar is the same as a thief, so be honest. Do you have such words in your country? If so, please let me know.
There is also a saying, "The face of the Buddha is three times." This is a metaphor for how even the kindest person will get angry if they are rude to him over and over again. The villagers of the "shepherd boy" were also very kind, and at first they came to help the boy, but they lied to me so many times that I got so angry that I didn't believe them.
Now, I would like to introduce two words related to "getting angry".
The first is "the cord of patience is cut". This is a metaphor for an outburst of anger that exceeds the tolerance of endurance. "O" is the string that tied the mouth of the bag, so it means that the string of the Kannan bag breaks and the anger overflows.
EX) "Even Mr. Tanaka, who is usually kind, has lost his patience this time."
The second is that “impatient is a loss”. This means that when you have a bad temper, you often end up hurting yourself by hurting your relationships and your job. Being short-tempered means being easily irritated.
EX) "Why are you so angry? A short temper is a loss."
